The WWE Night of Champions 2025 event unfolded last night at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking the 11th installment in the Night of Champions series. The opening match featured a tournament final for the King of the Ring title, where Randy Orton faced Cody Rhodes and ultimately lost.
Orton made his entrance to a rousing chant of his theme song from the audience. Notably, he had also competed in the previous year's King of the Ring final at the same event, where he was defeated by Gunther. Cody Rhodes followed, receiving an enthusiastic reception from the crowd.
This event was significant as it marked the first encounter between Randy and Cody in a WWE ring in 12 years. Both competitors executed their signature moves, leading to several near-falls. As the match neared its climax, Cody attempted a Disaster Kick, but Orton countered with an RKO!
Cody managed to kick out, prompting Orton to introduce a steel chair into the match. The referee intervened, removing the chair, which allowed Orton to expose the top turnbuckle while the referee was distracted. Cody capitalized on this by sending Orton into the exposed turnbuckle and finishing him off with the Cross Rhodes to secure the victory.
The winner was set to challenge for the Undisputed WWE Championship at the upcoming SummerSlam 2025. Following his victory, Cody expressed respect for Orton and stated his intention to reclaim the WWE Title from John Cena at SummerSlam, setting the stage for a rematch from WrestleMania 41.
Jade Cargill Advances to SummerSlam Title Match
In another highlight from Night of Champions 2025, Jade Cargill faced Asuka in the Queen of the Ring finals. This match was highly anticipated, showcasing a fresh singles bout between the two competitors. Ultimately, Cargill emerged victorious.
During the final moments, Cargill attempted to counter Asuka's submission hold with a roll-up. Asuka retaliated with a series of strikes, but Cargill managed to lift her during a hip attack attempt and executed her finishing move, Jaded, to clinch the win. Cargill is now set to challenge Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam 2025.
